All entrants are welcome – you don’t need to be a member
to compete, but non members are not eligible to receive SSA awards and
qualifications. Some shows, such as Eland Lodge, Draycott House and Mooreland Stables, welcome side saddle riders in all classes or offer special rosettes to competitors riding side saddle. Check with the Show Secretary first (and remember if the Judge is to ride, you should offer a choice of astride or side saddle). Eland Lodge offer special rosettes to competitors riding side saddle.
John and Veronica Coupland have supported Area 12 for several years
and this is an ideal opportunity to practice riding a dressage test
before the National Championships. Take your wallet – the coffee
shop has lots of homemade treats if you’re hungry, and we challenge
anybody to leave the tack and clothing shop without buying something! Have A Go (HAG) DaysArea 12 run regular Have A Go Days to enable riders to experience side saddle riding . The clinics are run on a very informal basis, with instruction tailored to suit the individual. Each session lasts around 30 minutes, and riders are taught on a one to one basis. The rider brings along her (or his) horse or pony and a saddle is fitted. Eland Lodge run regular HAG days, run by Area 12. For further details visit www.elandlodge.com
