Mooreland Stables Rules and General information

(last updated February 2010)

All events are held at Mooreland Stables, Stordon Lane, Griffydam, unless otherwise stated
Dogs to be kept on leads at all times
NO SMOKING on the premises
Litter must be placed in bins and not left any where on the show ground or adjacent land
Trailers must NOT be mucked out into the parking field. All competitors are required to take their muck home. Any competitors found to muck their trailer out into the field will be disqualified from their classes
Field gate to be kept closed at all times due to health and safety reasons
No horse to be left unattended whilst tied to a trailer or lorry
The gate steward will allocate parking spaces. Please wait to be directed before parking
The organiser reserves the right to cancel or substitute any class and to divide or combine any class subject to the number of entries received, and to change judges without prior notice
Alterations to and rescheduling of events will be posted on Mooreland Stables website
The organisers have the right to measure a horse or pony at any time
No horse or pony under the age of 4 years will be allowed to enter a ridden class
Junior classes are open to persons who are 16 years or under on the 01st January of the current year
Lead Rein classes are open to juniors 8 years or under on 01st January of the current year.
Lead rein riders must stay on the lead rein, even when not competing. If seen 'off' the lead rein, they will not be eligible to compete in further lead rein classes.
Once a junior has competed off the lead rein, they will not be eligible to compete on the lead rein again, unless entering non - competitively
Senior classes are open to persons who are 17years or over on the 01st January of the current year.
All handlers of lead rein ponies must be 17 years or over
Correct dress must be worn by competitors at all times
Riders must wear a black or navy skull cap or hat which conforms to BSEN1384, PAS015, ASTF1163 and bearing kite mark or SEI mark with a three point harness at all events when mounted
No spurs to be worn by juniors unless previously agreed by the organiser
Body protectors are recommended for all show jumping
Long riding boots or jodhpur boots to be worn when in the show ring
Trainers, Muckers or Wellington boots are not permitted when mounted
Mooreland Stables shall not be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to person or property, howsoever caused
Jewellery is not permitted whilst mounted
All competitors compete at their own risk
In the event of any disputes, the organisers decision is final
Abusive, aggressive or rude behaviour will not be tolerated in any way. Offenders will be asked to leave the showground
No galloping permitted unless asked to do so by a judge
It is the competitors responsibility to present themselves for the class at the appropriate time
Any competitors failing to present themselves within one minute of being called to their class will result in elimination
All riders are expected to ride sensibly and safely in the warm up rings. Failure to do so will result in a request to leave the showground
Competitors may be disqualified for:
Reckless riding
Any breach of rules
Ill treatment of any animal including excessive use of whip
Riding a unsound or ill horse
Taking part with any horse that is considered to be a danger to any person, animal or property

Trophies and prizes:
Perpetual trophies are to be returned to Mooreland Stables at least one month before the next prize giving. Winners will be required to sign a disclaimer before leaving the showground with any trophies.
Perpetual trophies are to be returned cleaned and engraved and in their original box.
Points towards loyalty prizes are awarded throughout the summer schedule ONLY. Additional winter events therefore will not be take into account.
Rosettes will be awarded to 6th place in all classes unless stated otherwise.

Judging of Classes:

IN HAND: Competitors should be of smart appearance. Jacket and tie preferred. A hard hat is compulsory for all junior handlers.

Veteran: Judged on conformation, manners and presentation of show.

Coloured Type: Judged on individual markings, conformation, manners and presentation of show.

Mountain & Moorland: To compete in this class your horse does not need to be registered but will have noticeable Mountain & Moorland breeding. Mountain & Moorland breeding covers all British Native Types including Shetland, Welsh Mountain Section A, B, C or D, Exmoor, Dartmoor, New Forest, Connemara, Highland, Fell & Dales. To show your horse as a Mountain and Moorland, he should be shown as recommended by the individual breed society. Plain browbands and bridles should be worn.

Non Mountain & Moorland: Any deviation from the above.

Cob: A cob is a type, not a breed. A show cob will be hogged and have all feathers etc trimmed, and a pulled tail. A traditional cob will be unplaited with full feathers. Judged on conformation, manners and presentation of show.

RIDDEN CLASSES: Hard hats to current standards to be worn at all times (except during those classes run under SSA rules). Long boots for seniors, jodhpur boots for juniors preferred. Light coloured jodphurs should be worn. Shirt and stock or tie to be worn with a show jacket.

Style and appearance: Judged on 50% cleanliness and overall appearance of horse and rider, 50% on style and accuracy of show.

Riding Club Pony/Horse: To be ridden in a snaffle bridle (other bits will be allowed, but marks may be lost at the judges discretion). Judged on manners, way of going and suitability for rider and riding club activities. Competitors will be required to jump a fence, height at the judges discretion.

Best Rider: Judged on riding ability and appearance.

Coloured Type: Judged on individual markings, conformation, manners and presentation of show.

Mountain and Moorland: To compete in this class your horse does not need to be registered but will have noticeable Mountain & Moorland breeding. Mountain & Moorland breeding covers all british Native Types including Shetland, Welsh Mountain Section A, B, C or D, Exmoor, Dartmoor, New Forest, Connemara, Highland, Fell & Dales. To show your horse as a Mountain and Moorland, he should be shown as recommended by the individual breed society. Plain browbands and bridles should be worn.

Neatest and Cleanest: Judged on 100% cleanliness and overall appearance of horse and rider. A show WILL NOT be required.

Veteran: Judged on conformation, manners and presentation of show.

Retrained Racehorse Class: For Weatherbys registered Thoroughbreds 4 years old and over. Tendons, fired Legs or any other blemishes caused by racing are acceptable. Ideally the horse should be entered using hos/her racing name. Riders must be aged 14 and over. Classes are judged 80% way of going, ride and manners, and 20% confirmation and trot up. The judge may ride.

Ridden Championship: Judged on best rider/horse combination from 1st and 2nd prizewinners in eligible classes. NO ENTRY FEE for this class.

Dressage: Judging as BD Rules of the current year. See Rulebook..

Side Saddle: Judging as SSA Rulebook of the current year.
